Today I made 16 pie crusts. I put 14 in the freezer and 2 in the refrigerator. I will fill the 2 later.
I had to use a very large roster pan to mix it all in. It took me about 1 1/2 hours to get the shortening mixed into the flour and salt. I was going to take photo's of the process but I put my cheep camera some place where it would not get lost and now I can't find it maybe next time. If I find the camera I will try not to hide it from myself again.
For me it is better to have pie crusts ready or I never make pies. So I would rather spend a few hours making crusts then I have them ready when I feel like making a pie.
Here is the recipe

Freezer Pie Crust makes 16
3 lbs. Shortening
5 lbs or 20 cups Flour
2 Table spoons Salt
3 Cups Ice water

In a very very large bowl mix flour, salt, and shortening together with your hands until all the shortening is mixed into the flour and it resembles very small peas. Add Ice water and mix well. Form into balls then flatten them so it is easy to roll out ounce defrosted.
Wrap individually in waxed or freezer paper and put in large freezer bags.
When ready to make a pie take out of freezer and defrost and roll out.

Today I finally was able to walk down to the burn area.

Maria and Jonah walked with me.

Here is the their fort and camp area. Not much burned but a plastic wheel
barrel melted to nothing.
The side of the ladder is burned and the sides of the trees are burned a little. It mostly burned the pine needles.

The the left of the camp area is another area burned. It looks like it jumped around and burned some areas and missed others.

To the right is the tree that burned up the middle and they had to cut it down the next day as it was still burning.

To the back is another area that burned.
It is funny the trees burned but the pine needles right by them did not.

Back a little more is another burned area.

Way back near the neighbors fence another area that burned.

It is hard to believe this did not do more damage.

Making banana bread for Dad.
The apron Hannah is wearing, or hanging off her body was my grandmothers so it has been passed down by 5 generations.

They knew how to make aprons back then.

Oh no is Isaac tasting the bananas.

Better give them a banana.

Finished very good Banana bread.

I was going to take some photo's of the wild horses on the way to Yakima but they did not come out until after dark. So will try again next time I go.

Hannah made
banana
bread, her dad's favorite. It is soooo good.

I have been knitting for years but tried socks once or twice and never could get the hang of the 4 needles. I decided this year I am going to learn to knit socks.

I started my first today I had to put some little feet on the ends of my needles to keep every thing from falling off while knitting on another needle.

Yesterday the dishwasher broke down, it is the first one we have had and with a family as big as ours it has been a big help. It sure is a good thing Paul knows all kinds of things and can fix just about any thing so he had it working again by evening.

Well I have been down with my back longer than I thought I would be.
Yesterday we put all our beans, noodles and flour in jars and sealed with our food saver.

Today we took photo's of the things I made to put on my daughters site to sell. I will try to add them here as soon as I can.

I found a pretty scarf pattern and started knitting it.

It is very easy. Using Number 9 needles cast on 31 or the width you want.

Row 1 knit 1 purl 1 across

Row 2 purl 1 knit 1 purl across to last two knit 1 purl 1.

Repeat these two rows until the desired length bind off.

You can add a fringe if you like.

I crochet a baby blanket for my new grandson just in time for winter. He was born in June but my carpal tunel was so bad I could not finish it then. After a rest and probably the pain pills for my back I was able to finish it.
